The (After) Life Of The Party

“An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It’s a black fly in your Chardonnay
It’s a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think”

Like rain drops quieting down into puddles after a storm, “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette was composed in a moderate tempo of eighty-two beats per minute, the lyrics of the song are made up of several situations that are meant to be “ironic” though critics continue to debate if any of the situations mentioned in the song are “ironic” in its true sense, This of course has led to a lot of jokes about Alanis not knowing what Irony is…

As I mentioned in my last post, life is a tremulous journey, we rise and we fall, we win and we lose, but what happens when rising no longer seems possible…

“Rise Above This” by Seether is a song written to bring someone(Eugene, Morgan’s little brother) out of depression… as good as the song is, it wasn’t enough to stop this person from committing suicide.
The music video revolves around a depressed boy who decides to leap off a building. as he falls, his family falls with him (I’m assuming this implies the cold fact of one’s decision being a chain reaction to(and affects) everyone they love). Through the course of falling they try to overcome their problems and eventually bounce back up.

God gave mankind freedom of will, the right to choose, and, for the most part, mankind has made wrong choices

I as a fellow human being am in no position to start preaching to you, though the good book does remind us how we shouldn’t over indulge in alcohol and company… yet we continue to choose otherwise, cementing/paving the path to our hell…

As we’ve established, mankind isn’t great with decisions… but what happens when we do make the right decisions? YES, you guessed it, we then have to go through everything that once kept us from making that decision in the first place… confused?
Well, with good decisions comes the good and of course the not so good…

check this out…

“Under The Bridge” is a song written by Red Hot Chili Pepper’s vocalist, Anthony Kiedis, with his sobriety and newly drug free life, he had found himself alone, he could no longer share a good smoke with his band mates while working in the studio… he felt a profound sense of loss, like he was no longer one of the boys…
Kiedis wrote the lyrics to express despondency, and to reflect on narcotics and their impact on his life. The real emotions of the song would later propel it to #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was soon certified platinum and to date is the second most performed live Red Hot Chili Peppers song following “Give It Away” which has been performed more than 600 times.

How I see it, God never punished mankind for having the forbidden fruit, but it is us who continue to punish ourselves with what we “know” and “love”.

Stop punishing yourselves, your friends, family… BE RESPONSIBLE

When beautiful melodies tell us horrible things and grisly sounds tell us the kind truth. This is where life and music meet. They say music has the power to inspire change, I say music has the power to inspire vibes. Good vibes and bad vibes. It also has the power to inspire thoughts, but most importantly, for it to inspire change, it must inspire conversation. I smell music, I speak music. View all posts by Ndumiso Mncwabe
