Fall Of Man

It was a wicked and wild wind, blew down the doors to let me in, shattered windows and the sound of drums, people couldn’t believe what I’d become, revolutionaries wait for my head on a silver plate, just a puppet on a lonely string, oh who would ever want to be king?- Coldplay in “Viva La Vida”

Don’t we all? Don’t we all want to be The Man, the king, the leader of the pack? Well, maybe some of us would want that a little less than others. We’re all passionate about different things after all and on my earlier posts I’ve talked about the dangers of passion, making reference to a certain song containing lyrics that go; “Passion chokes the flower, ’til she cries no more, possessing all of her beauty, hungry still for more”. It’s in our best interest to be careful of the things we’re passionate about and why we’re passionate about such things, If the driving force behind our passion is not for the greater good of the people around us, our fellow brothers and sisters, if our passion is centred by our selfishness, the good in it is bound to be swallowed up along with ourselves… ’til we cry no more.

They say money is the root to all evil, I say that’s not the case, yes, I can use a handful of biblical references and how Evil has been around much longer than money, using time to support my argument, instead I’ll make a suggestion, perhaps it’s our passion for money that drives us to do things that go against our morals as humans. Yes we all need money, yet there’s a fine line between need and greed. It’s the conversations we have with ourselves that make us, that break us. It’s evaluating the things we want, how much we want these things and why we want them that may keep us on track. If you’re not willing to be part of the pack or work for those who follow then you’re bound to fall off, your selfish passion will be your doom.

I used to rule the world, seas would rise when I gave the word, now in the morning I sweep alone, sweep the streets that I used to own– Coldplay in “Viva La Vida”

Let’s be careful of the things we’re passionate about, the reasons for our passion and how much of it, of ourselves we give for Earthly glory. Don’t let it control who you are.

About Ndumiso Mncwabe

When beautiful melodies tell us horrible things and grisly sounds tell us the kind truth. This is where life and music meet. They say music has the power to inspire change, I say music has the power to inspire vibes. Good vibes and bad vibes. It also has the power to inspire thoughts, but most importantly, for it to inspire change, it must inspire conversation. I smell music, I speak music. View all posts by Ndumiso Mncwabe
