Rebirth: Between The Noise You Hear & The Sounds You Like Comes The Evolution

Then: When sound makes no sense

Now : Music, The Great Communicator

Then: As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we each hear music differently. With all the different genres, we enjoy different types of it, we understand it differently, we relate to it differently, it inspires us according to our various circumstances. After ages of being around, music still smells as fresh.

Now : When beautiful melodies tell us horrible things and grisly sounds tell us the kind truth.

This is where life and music meet.

They say music has the power to inspire change, I say music has the power to inspire vibes. Good vibes and bad vibes. It also has the power to inspire thoughts, but most importantly, for it to inspire change, it must inspire conversation.

I smell music, I speak music.

It Feels Like Somethin’s Heatin’ Up

BETHLEHEM, WEST BANK - DECEMBER 05: A Palestinian labourer works under a large wall painting by elusive British graffiti artist Banksy December 5, 2007 on a building wall in the biblical city of Bethlehem in the West Bank. The Bristol-born artist has adorned Israel's West Bank separation barrier and Bethlehem walls with new images, including one of a dove wearing a flak jacket and a soldier being frisked by a young girl. His works, along with those of other international artists, are part of an exhibition called Santa's Ghetto. (Photo by David Silverman/Getty Images)

This is death of humans, no, this is my apology to humans, I mean people, my fellow brothers and sisters. Over the last two years I’ve developed a habit of referring to you as “humans”, well, we all are human but me referring to people as humans is me separating myself from everyone else. It comes across as if I think I’m better than the rest and I’d like to apologise for that and promise to be mindful of the things and the words I say and to employ a wide-eyed approach and refrain from putting myself above my brothers and sisters. Yes, finding fault in others is so easy yet we seldom find fault in ourselves, truth is, we all have good intentions. It’s unfortunate that good intentions can be the very substance that leads us to our fall.

“Almost every sinful action ever committed can be traced back to a selfish motive. It is a trait we hate in other people but justify in ourselves”

Everyone wants to be heard but not everyone wants to listen… too cliché? lemme change it up a bit; Everyone wants to be heard but no one wants to be a voice, A voice against their own hypocritism. Us humans have a way of making ourselves an exception. Everyone thinks they’re special, everyone thinks they’re the greatest, everyone thinks they are an old soul, one in a million, yes, everyone thinks they can see what many can’t, but no one cares. How many of us actively want to change the world? 1, 2? How many of us want to rule it? The numbers may be scary but what’s even scarier is how in our quest to run things we forget our fundamentals. The things that bring us together as brothers and sisters

“Cause you tear us apart with all the things you don’t like”, A Line from Mountains by Biffy Clyro. You don’t need to listen to this song to know that mountains are firm on their ground, unmovable, much like our mentality as a people. We share knowledge not with an approach of fellowship but with one that puts down anyone who doesn’t share the same knowledge and or principles, separating us further apart. Life is something we all have in common, life brings us together but when your way of life is imposed unto others as if they don’t know what’s good for themselves and you know best, life and our antithetical perceptions of it drives us further apart.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall… We all know how that ends. Such basics remind us how related we all are. As our thoughts collect along this wall we call life, we are on common grounds…

“If I use difference to exclude other people, If I use difference to make myself superior then I’ve turned that wall not into a meeting place but that wall into a separation”

The Children of The Son Are Burning In The Sun

Something caught my attention in the news, I usually miss important stuff but this time I didn’t. Said to potentially cure HIV in collaboration with other drugs Truvada is a drug that is claimed to prevent HIV infections by up to 100% to those prescribed with it…

Take whatever you want from this information but I think the last thing we need is something that’s gonna encourage us to have unsafe sex with people we’ve never tested with… Yes, call me paranoid but I smell noisy propaganda all around this.

Brothers and sisters, how HIV/AIDS came about is still a very grey conversation, Whilst many claim that the virus was man-made why it was made is also a cloudy conversation… Sex is a weakness for us as a people, a weakness that anyone can use against us, a weakness we can use against each other… Which brings us to the question, are we as free a we say we are, is the struggle really over?

“In my backpack, I got my act right

In case you act quite difficult

and your is so weaken with anger and discontent

Some are seeking and searching like me, moi

I’m a peace-loving decoy, ready for retaliation

I change the whole occasion to a pine box six-under

Impulsive, don’t ask wild wonder

Orders given to me is ‘Strike’ and I’m thunder

With lightning fast reflexes on constant alert

From the constant hurt that seems limitless

With no dropping pressure”

World peace is something any honest Jesus freak hopes for, Ironically it’s also something any honest Jesus freak knows we’ll never get. The good book itself bares prophecies of the end of time. Yes, many of us may speculate about how the chains are already in motion, looking at everything that’s happening around us. In Mandela Girls I blogged about an encounter I had with a pride of prostitutes… yes, a pride… It felt like one them was about to pounce for the kill. It’s so easy to ignore something you hear about or something you see on TV but when you get to actually see it, a whole new reality rings in.

Poverty has so many of us in a chokehold, so much so, for what may seem as change to another may just be enough for so many others not to even think twice about risking their health, their lives for…

“The cost of life, it seems to get cheaper

Out in the desert with my street sweeper

THE WAR IS OVER, so said the speaker

With the flight suit on

Maybe to him I’m just a pawn

So he can advance

Remember when I used to dance

Man, all I wanna do is dance”

But I Love It, But I Love It

“Three guns and one goes off

One’s empty, one’s not quick enough

One burn, one red, one grin

Search the graves while the camera spins…”

We’ve all seen it happen, some of us have been part of it.

Yes, generally it make sense for friends (whom afterall are friends because they have a number of things in common) to gravitate towards the same kind of people as far as forming romantic relationships, yet as friends it is also important to make boundaries and respect each other in those regards but sometimes those boundaries are broken and you find people dating their friend’s ex(es)…

“…Triangles are my favourite shape

Three points where two lines meet

Toe to toe

back to back

Lets go my love, it’s very late…”

Though the intentions aren’t always clear, in some cases the ex may pursue their ex’s friend(s) in hopes of making the ex jealous… sometimes (as they say) it “just happened/s”. Yes ladies and gentlemen, this is where having a “type” gets dangerous.

Does this now mean that since your ex’s friends have similar qualities as the ex, someone you fell in love with deem them (the friends) your type?

Does this now mean you have to go through all of them to find the right one? Yea it may make sense to the doer but it’s not a good look to the rest of us judges of the world… Watch us as we slowly shake our heads in judgment.

In closing, us human beings are copy cats by nature, we all carry the follow the leader mentality. With that said, we can’t help but see people how the people closest to them portray them. This is why I always say you can’t expect your lover to fully respect your family especially your parents if you don’t speak of them as if they’re royalty. Likewise you can’t expect the people around you to respect your lover if in their presence you refer to her as a whore or him a dick.

If you bad mouth him or her in front of your friends, to the frisky kind of friend it can be received as a free for all invite… A cheap piece of human they can mess with… Whether them being a whore is true or not, they’ll find themselves victim to the wrong kind of attention… As heartbreak bites and devours them a million times over…

“Bite chunks out of me

You’re a shark and I’m swimming

My heart still thumps as I bleed

And all your friends come sniffing”

Never Trust A Happy Song

Whether we are in denial or not, we’d all like to think that we’ve got our rubbish down. That we are in full control of ourselves, that we know what’s good for us, that we care about others, that we are well-rounded happy humans but hey, life happens, and you know what they say about life screwing us all…

“Turn me on

Take me for a hard ride

Burn me out, Leave me on the other side

I yell and tell it that it’s not a friend

I tear it down

I tear it down

And then it’s born again…”

Yes, I’m generally a happy person, I’ve never experience depression and I can only hope not to ever experience it… With depression, suicidal thoughts are never far behind, personally I’ve never really wanted to commit suicide aside from that one time when I was probably 11 and I was having a lazy day when my grandmother wanted me to go get her something from the store. It made me want to drive my dead through the wall… As much as I can’t really relate to being suicidal, having a drug problem or being depressed, I still enjoy listening to songs of such themes. As sexual as the lyrics above sound, they’re actually about an addiction, a depression, how hard it is to go through either and how both can mental screw one up.

Honestly most Red Hot Chili Peppers songs appear to be about sex yet they’re usually about a lot more than just copulation just like vintage Fall Out Boy songs all seem to be about a girl, a break up or being cheated on when at a closer look they’re about a lot more. “More”= ranging from self-esteem to politics.

The above lyrics from “Otherside” are the climax of the song… you’re probably thinking of that Usher Song aren’t you? If so, I’ll indulge you more, Yes “Climax” by Usher is actually about the climax of a situation between lovers, the word itself may carry an orgasmic undertone, yes the song may be interpreted that way as well but it’s actually about a peak point of a situation, this situation may very well be a fight, the climax point where the couple can either reach their breaking point or realise how important the relationship is to them despite the bad heat leading to the peak of whatever the situation. The verse I’ve quoted from “Otherside” is about the climax or that moment when a drug addict or someone suffering from depression hits rock bottom, after being knocked down so many times it’s this lowest point that the abuser or victim can finally find it in him or herself to completely tear down the wall and reach out to the man on the other side of the mirror.

Though We’re Never Gonna Survive, Unless We Get a Little Crazy

Twenty-Four years ago this very day, the greatest grunge song of all time was released. As iconic as Smells Like Teen Spirit is, it was nominated for a Grammy only to LOSE to “GIve It Away” by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Yes, as controversial as the Grammy loss/win was or still is, I’ve made it very clear that I live for both songs and with that said I don’t really mind which one of the two won the Grammy. Which brings me to the most important part of Kanye West’s speech at this year’s VMAs. Well, we all know he wants to run for president in 2020, I’m very happy for him and stuff, and yes it served as a very dramatic ending to his speech but I don’t think that was the most important part.

If you haven’t realized it by now, I had two huge artists in mind when I was putting together this Blog… The 1st of course being Kurt Cobain and the rest of Nirvana and the 2nd being Kanye West… don’t believe me? Check out my header. Yeap, the prophecy has been fulfilled. They say history repeats itself and from where I’m standing, that’s exactly what happened at this year’s VMAs… Wait, LISTEN TO THE KIDS BRO… Well, I’m one person and I’m not really a kid, but hear me out…

Before Kanye West, Kurt Cobain is the only other artist that had balls big enough to give MTV the middle finger. You may or may not know this but when Nirvana had “Rape Me” as their latest single, MTV asked them not to perform it on their VMA stage but to perform “LIthium” instead… MTV practically forced them to perform a song they weren’t planning to perform… Nonetheless, once on stage Nirvana started performing “Rape Me”, (MTV) in panic and about to switch to a commercial break, Nirvana switched it up and only then started performing Lithium.

This year something of that proportion happened. Kanye basically said he doesn’t understand the whole thing of award shows ON AN AWARD SHOW STAGE. He also went on to point out MTVs obvious attempts to increase their ratings. Though the attempts are or were obvious, no one else would’ve mentioned it on their stage.

In terms of music, the most important thing Kanye West said is that he doesn’t understand why after doing so well and being loved by millions all over the would a song must then be put against 4 other songs, each great in their own rights but now given a chance to LOSE.

Yes ladies and gents, this is the very meaning behind Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. We as humans are our own worst enemies, likewise we are our biggest competitors… Yes, it’s so cliché, and I’m about to punch myself in the face for writing it, but we can’t take away it’s truth, it’s not always about being better than everyone else but it’s about being the best you can be. Your God-given gift is not to be compared but to be sharpened in your own betterment, to be appreciated, to be used in its entirety.

“I’m worse at what I do best

And for this gift I feel blessed

A little group, has always been

and always will

Until the end”

A Dream is Broken, Now The Mind Must Be Woken

“Until then…

I keep attracting into my experience, a state of limbo…list of things to do but only when this one obstacle is out of the way first…

So I write it out and simply put it to rest…until then

In the mean time what is there to do?

My reflection is blatantly staring back at me but my perception blinds me”

– Faatima in her Until Then post

We’ve all been stuck between heaven and hell in some way or another. They call it comfort… Yes, things could always be worse, likewise there’s always room for improvement but sometimes we get so tangled up in routine that it becomes our illusional health, our reality, routine becomes us, who we are as it chokeholds our possibilities, our growth submits to our fears of the unknown…

Why not the devils you don’t know? Why not today? Why not mashup songs that have never been mashed up before? “Why Not Wednesday” starts now.

Sometimes you just have to breakdown the boundaries and unleash yourself to the sea of possibilities, yes there will be sharks but there are also mosquitos on land, so why not?

Since this is meant to be a music blog and music is mostly meant to make us feel good, I with your help would like to explore possible song mashups…

Mashups. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t… A lot of the time when mashups are done, instrumentals of one of the songs are placed with lyrics from the second song but since words are mostly what I have here, lyrics are our best friends… watch.

Stuck In Limbo is a song by Afrikaans rapper Jack Parrow featuring Nonku… The song holistically is a classical example of what Eminem has been doing over the last few years… A white boy rapping about anger and demons on a (heavy/ Alternative) rock beat accompanied by warm sweet vocals by a featured artist on the chorus. The title alone reveals everything the song is about. Then we have the Iconic “Bubblegum On My Boots” By The Springbok Nude Girls… this number needs no introduction and yes I’ve blogged about it a few times before…

“Perfect skies are blue and strange, just to think of what has been arranged

And a bloom of flowers here

But my boots are still too tight

Standing here day by day

All I want to say, all I want to say, all I want to say

Is I think I know what’s wrong with me now

Is this what I’ve been waitin’ for?

Stuck between heaven and hell

Stuck in limbo

Kissing angels, Slaying demons

Am I able? Am I dreaming between heaven and hell

Stuck in limbo”

There comes a time when every bird has to fly, a time when every rose has to die, a time when one has to swim or drown. Yes we all have it in us to swim and though drowning to our demise seems like the worst ending, it isn’t. Drifting with the current is.

The dream is broken, now the mind must be woken…
