3 Day Quote Challenge Round 2! (Day 2)

YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAA, it’s that time again, as you know, David of Chape Personal Trainer nominated me for the 3 day 3 quotes challenge. He is very  friendly and his blog is always worth a visit.

Challenge’s rules:

  1. Post three consecutive days.
  2. You can pick one or three quotes per day.
  3. Challenge three different bloggers per day.

It’s a Sunday, a day of rest, a day of worship… Yes not everyone is a believer and it’s no surprise considering how full of mystery the world is.

What is real and what isn’t? what’s true and what isn’t? We can debate that until we’re all blue in the face… What we all do know is that we all live, and we’ll all die.

“The best part of believe is the ‘lie'”- Fall Out Boy in a number from their Under The Cork Tree album

My nominees are:

3 Days 3 Quotes Challenge Day 3

Sad, sad day… Yea, today is my last day for the challenge… haha! I’m being dramatic, I’ve really enjoyed participating and would like to once more humbly thank Anand of blabberwockying!  for the nomination.

Challenge rules

1. Post 3 consecutive days

2. You can pick one or three quotes per day

3. Challenge three different bloggers per day

Once again my quote today is something I’ve heard from a song… I chose this one for many reasons… One of them being my fascination with the universe and it’s wonders… how it takes care of itself… how life takes care of itself and how very little we know about it…

“Stomped by this disaster town, you put your eyes to the sun and say; I know you’re only blinding to keep back what the clouds are hiding”- Fall Out Boy

My Nominees today are…

‘Til She Cries No More

Sugar, We’re Going Down is one of those numbers that still cheers me up regardless of its uncheerful subject. Of course like many good numbers it can be interpreted a hundred different ways but none is cheerful nor positive. One way of interpreting this jam is to explore lines like; “I’ll be your number one with a bullet” and the gravity these eight words carry… murder being our first suspect. We’ve all at some point paged through the newspaper or turned on the radio to hear a story about a protagonist shooting the lover then turning the gun on themself…. (That) Sugar, We’re Going Down, if I find you cheating or if you want to leave me because I’m no longer your number one, I’ll make myself your number one with a bullet (kind of vibe). So it goes on.

When heartbreak strikes, things aren’t alway fast tracked with death, a murder, but a rather slow deathless death, A spiritual death. We start this one with a story about a young girl who lost herself to the world, once heavenly, her soul butchered to be one with the Earthly soil… okay, maybe that was a bit over the top… Let’s try a different approach…

I shouldn’t laugh but I know I’m a failure in your eyes, I know it’s daft but I guess I know it deep inside“- Biffy Clyro in “Black Chandelier”

Being human means you’re alive, being alive means you have expectations for yourself. Our story is about a girl named Julie, Julie expected nothing but the best from the world, to her own devices, happiness shot her like a bullet in the vein, like a smoking gun cooling down her tears showered down her once cheerful cheeks as they settle down to her despare, the man of her dreams broke her heart… She had made him her everything, she made him her hopes and dreams, left without anything she now roams the streets, wilted, without any control of her tomorrow she is now a victim of unstable frown freaks bargaining for her temple.

“You left my heart like an abandoned car, old and worn, no use at all, but I used to be free“- Biffy Clyro in “Black Chandelier”

Once upon a time, she was in control, her body was never sold but gladly and freely surrendered to her one and only lover, those days are no more, now a whore, she will never sever. Licking back the tag, her body now has a price.

Dressing our wings with industrial gloves made of wire, Feel it penetrating the skin, we begin to relax“- Biffy Clyro in “Black Chandelier”

The above line is clearly about getting high… Like most prostitutes Julie now turns to drugs to get through her days as she keeps her death alive with life quenching sips of cyanide.

Things don’t always have to end this way, at the same time, a happy ending isn’t guaranteed for everyone, so we run, caught in our time, caught in the race, only we can decide if it’s our own race or a race against everyone else.

Though it’s hard not to, imagining a future with that special person is a danger because that’s when you start marrying your hopes and plans to another human being, this making the person a principal character in your future hence should they leave it becomes close to impossible to move on, to build a future without that person. We forget that we are ourselves, we don’t become less of who we are when someone leaves. Free yourself, free yourself from passion, yes, you’ll find that most religions try to teach us ways of letting go of our passion for Earthly bodies and company. Passion may be seen as good but with a closer look passion can be so strong as to inhibit all practice of personal freedom, a state in which the soul is in some sense rendered passive, restricted, in love with things being a certain way. This making us weak. unable to adapt, to survive… Brothers and sisters, this is your race, it’s yours to begin, it’s yours to win.

“Passion chokes the flower, til she cries no more, possessing all of her beauty, Hungry still for more”

Stripper From The South

“Say my name and his in the same breath, I dare you to say they taste the same, Let the leaves fall off in the summer and let December glow in flames”

These one-sided or perhaps western (more correctly, Northern hemisphere) influenced lyrics written by Fall Out Boy are a lot like many other regionally influenced traditions the modern-day society follows. I’m talking about Christmas, Easters and more, but just to focus on the two I’ve mentioned, Christmas is themed around the Northern hemisphere climate or season so is Easter, Christmas in South Africa is usually hot as hell, if Santa came here, he’d mos definitely lose that hat and coat. As for Easter, unlike the brightly wrapped easter eggs and spring inspired marketing tactics, things here aren’t really all that bright and spring-y… We have Easter during autumn after all. Back to the song lyrics, our December actually DOES glow in flames, yeap, not a big deal. It happens all the time. Leaves falling off in the summer? well, that we can talk about, leaves not falling off during summer is something a bit more universal, much like having to deal with a heart you didn’t break or saying you Don’t Care when you actually do.

As I’ve dragged in how we sometimes find ourselves having to deal with hearts we didn’t break, with lyrics that open with the words; Say my name and his in the same breath, I dare you to say they taste the same, the protagonist is clearly trying to prove a point to his love interest, he is trying to convince her that he is not her ex or the boy whom broke her heart, that he shouldn’t have to pay for his sins.

“I Don’t Care” may be know as the lead single that lead to Fall Out Boy’s four-year hiatus. After realizing a decline in sales and popularity, Sold Out Boy (or so they were called by disappointed fans and critics) had sold out to a new audience. When the band took time off to regroup and “find” themselves, it was evident that they in fact did care about making that dough and of course being liked by the buying audience.

“I don’t care what you think as long as it’s about me, The best of us can find happiness in misery”

Stepping away from the song entirely, saying I don’t care is one of the biggest most common lies told by man, or should I say the cool macho men and women who think they’ve got it all together. Personally one of the main things I’ve always felt separate me from the average cool human is that the average cool man spends way too much of their energy guarding their hearts. On the other hand, I’ve always felt more of a need to guard my mind instead. It’s most powerful. My heart keeps my body alive. My mind keeps Ndumiso alive. My heart will never change my body or how it is seen, though my mind can change who I am, my name, what it stands for and how it’s received. Only I am completely in charge of that.

What I’m saying is, the average cool human spends so much of his or her time going on about how they Don’t Care what other humans think. Meanwhile they’re sounding as emotional as BAD WORD and they don’t even see it. Honestly, I care what humans think, doesn’t mean I’m bothered by it. I own up to all good and bad thought of me, it’s all me, I’m not ashamed. Of course if there was something to be ashamed of, I’d try to block it out and pretend not to care at all. Makes sense? Well, maybe it wasn’t meant to.

Loose Lips Sink Ships

“Last summer we took threes across the board, but by fall we were a cover story now in stores”

You know how meeting someone who listens to and enjoys the same music as you feels like you’ve just met your long-lost brother or sister? that’s something I will never feel towards new Fall Out Boy fans. At least those that become fans because of their new music.

Evolution is a good thing for anyone and everyone and evolving for any artist should be a priority, unfortunately as the artist evolves, the listener wont always evolve with the artist or at least our taste for the art wont always evolve to be pleased by the artist once pleased by and with that, pulling the same note over and over inevitably bores the audience and that’s where taking risks comes in, it’s win or lose, both the artist and the fan simultaneously lose and win, the artist is bound to lose at least a zillion fans but their then new work is bound to catch the ear of a new fan, the fan loses an “idol” and from there on gets to explore other music scenes and artists.

“You can blame your problems on the world for so long, before it all becomes the same old song”

We always give artists a hard time when they “change”, as they try to evolve for their betterment, from the top of our lungs at their shows we shout, telling them that they have sold out to the masses and so on, but why do we then bother going to their shows? See, they say if you don’t get it, then it’s not for you, it’s not for you to get, stop, drop your weapons, rather spend that fire on something you feel is worth your while.

Jay Z said it on “On To The Next One”, “If you want my old shit, buy my old album” as much as I want to, there’s not really much I can add to that.

Heading towards the new year we all have a lot of expectations for ourselves, to be better in all we do and with that comes new years resolutions, our hopes to evolve and adopt new habits, habits to grab it, and by it, I mean “it”, you can’t buy it but you can own it, by next year I’m sure you’ll be on it. Evolution is a mystery. Evolution is a mystery.

Being probably the biggest “Anti-Christ” theory, the laws of evolution are heart breaking. Is He true, or are the laws true? Evolution is a mystery. Written by Motorhead, “Line In The Sand” talks about a point in one’s life when one sees a “line in the sand”, a boundary and having the heart to evolve enough to cross that boundary.

“Evolution is a mystery, another change that no one sees, God makes a fool of history, Yesterday’s so long ago, Don’t agree with what I know, Tomorrow’s just no place to be”

Tomorrow is just no place for the you you are today to live, to survive, so time allows us to evolve as we see our reflection change, it grooms us with today’s hardships, arming us for tomorrows hardships.

“I see the line in the sand, Time to find out who I am, Looking back to see where I stand, Evolution, Evolution”

The Sound Of A Breaking Heart

This Music Smells Like The Sound Of A Breaking Heart

“Every line is plotted and designed to leave you standing on your bedroom windows ledge and everyone else that it hits, that it gets to is nothing more than collateral damage”

Kiedis of The Red Hot Chili Peppers once said, as a writer, you get to see sides of yourself you wouldn’t normally see in conversation or otherwise. I say there’s more to that, I say it’s not the actual writing that gives us such perspective but our love for it, our passion, the same passion that choked the flower ’til it cried no more, possessing all of its beauty, hungry still for more… okay, I kind of got carried away there… what an amazing force this is… this love… turns saints into murderers.

“We’re going down, down in an earlier round and sugar we’re going down swinging, I’ll be your number one with a bullet, a loaded God complex, cock it and pull it”

People die for love everyday, people kill for love everyday, the same love we spend so much time and effort trying to pursue.

Taken from Fall Out Boy chart topper “Sugar, We’re Going Down”, the above lyrics are plotted and designed to take the listener wherever their heart already resides. This of course equates to the true meaning of this tune being highly debatable. How I see it, this number could easily be about love murder as the seemingly upset yet sarcastic protagonist watches (from the closet) as his love interest gets intimate with another man, “wishing to be the friction” in their jeans as he contemplates pulling the trigger.

They say money doesn’t/can’t buy happiness, but everyone wants to find this out themselves, same goes for love, yes, love isn’t happiness though it inspires it, it inspires us to give various elements that love alone can’t do without, this being honesty, care and all of their friends.

Curious and cautious in a stagger of my hearts track, How vast the world was, by the light of lime we gather, inflamed like moths to a fire”

Written by South African rockers aKing, these words basically narrate a rout we’ve all taken at some point, fueled by curiosity we cautiously explore, steady walking but bound to trip we tighten our grip, holding on to this fairytale coloured picture, bright colours so darkly shaded, inevitably the grip gets so violent we tear each other apart. Words are said, actions are done, no taking it back, death is the closest friend to a fresh start.
